Introduction

The Bachelor of Environmental Program and Practices is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary academic program designed to prepare future environmental professionals to address the pressing ecological, social, and economic challenges facing our planet. Grounded in international environmental standards and aligned with national sustainability goals and global frameworks such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the program emphasizes scientific understanding, sustainable management, and practical solutions for environmental preservation and enhancement.

Through a curriculum that integrates theoretical foundations with hands-on research and community engagement, students develop critical analytical skills, environmental assessment competencies, and practical expertise necessary for implementing sustainable practices. The program fosters innovative thinking, environmental stewardship, and strategic management to equip graduates with the ability to develop integrated solutions for air, water, and soil quality, ecological conservation, environmental economics, and psychology.

Minimum Entry Requirements

Successful completion of GCET General Foundation Programme with a minimum of 60% in each component. Diploma Holders are encouraged to apply for advanced entry.

General Education Diploma – Science or Art Track (Pure or Applied Math), or equivalent, with a minimum overall average of 55%

What you will be studying?

In the BSc (Hons) Environmental Program and Practices, you will explore the fundamental and applied aspects of environmental science and management. You’ll study key topics such as air quality management, water resource protection, soil conservation, environmental economics, and environmental psychology. You’ll learn how human activities impact natural ecosystems and discover strategies for sustainable environmental practices.

You will gain skills in environmental monitoring, data analysis, GIS applications, and environmental impact assessment. The program emphasizes understanding the social and behavioral dimensions of environmental issues, alongside scientific principles and technological solutions, to foster sustainable decision-making. Students will also explore policies, laws, and community engagement approaches necessary for effective environmental management.

By the end of your studies, you will be equipped to develop innovative, science-based solutions that promote environmental resilience, public health, and sustainable development.

Laboratory and Research Facilities

The program is supported by well-equipped laboratories equipped with advanced environmental monitoring and analysis tools. These labs facilitate practical training in air quality assessment, water testing, soil analysis, and ecological data collection, reinforcing theoretical learning through active experimentation. Additionally, dedicated research facilities and computational labs enhance capabilities in environmental modelling, GIS, remote sensing, and data analysis, enabling students to undertake impactful research projects and innovative environmental solutions.

Where can it take you?

Environment forms an important part of recent and future developments in the Sultanate of Oman, the region and the world. This will create great demands for environmental professionals who are able to develop, implement and maintain strategies and policies related to environment. Environmental management and practices graduates go on to careers in environment and management organisations, as well as in areas such as design of major projects, economic development, urban regeneration and environmental consultancy. Jobs exist across the public sector with local authority departments, central/devolved governments and private environmental consultancies. Opportunities also exist with industrial areas, neighborhood planning organisations, transport organisations (e.g. ports), private tourism developers and utilities companies.
