Our research spans a wide array of topics including Energy-efficient Mechanical Systems, Smart Materials, Advanced Thermal Dynamics, Additive Manufacturing, and Sustainable Mobility Solutions. We aim to contribute to the field through the exploration of mechanical systems that optimize energy use, enhance performance under extreme conditions, and minimize environmental impact. Our work emphasizes innovations in design, simulation, and fabrication techniques, striving to create efficient systems that address the challenges of tomorrow in areas such as aerospace, automotive, and energy generation.
Automation and Robotics
The Automation and Robotics Research Group is industriously engaged in cutting-edge research, patents, and publications. The group focuses on developing intelligent management systems, autonomous mobile robots, industrial logistics automation, humanoid robots, robotic vision, and artificial intelligence applications in robotics. Our research spans a wide range of topics including intelligent control systems, robot perception, autonomous navigation, and human-robot interaction. We aim to contribute to the field by investigating novel approaches that enable robots to perform effectively both in the air and on the ground. Our work emphasizes innovations in design, control systems, and optimization methods, striving to create intelligent robotic systems that address the challenges of tomorrow in industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, and logistics.
Communications
The Communications Research Group is actively engaged in pioneering research, patents, and publications. The group focuses on advancing wireless communication technologies, including the design of circuits and subsystems for 5G, B5G, and 6G networks, the Internet of Things (IoT), optical communications, and wireless sensor networks. Our research spans a broad spectrum of topics, such as signal processing, communication system theory, and network optimization. We aim to contribute to the field by reducing costs and power consumption in communication systems while maximizing the bandwidth of communication channels. Our work emphasizes innovations in signal processing algorithms that enhance data throughput, power efficiency, and system performance, addressing the needs of future wireless networks and communication systems.
Education and Community
The Education and Community Research Group is committed to advancing the teaching-learning experience for students and academics at all levels of higher education, including preparatory, undergraduate, and postgraduate studies. The group focuses on bridging technological and methodological approaches in education, aiming to enhance the connection between education and the community. We work to foster inclusive and adaptive education systems by promoting community engagement and integrating innovative technologies into teaching practices. Our research explores new educational models, tools, and strategies that enable more effective learning environments and strengthen the relationship between academia and society.
Cyber Security
GCET has a key role in the Cybersecurity research and education in the Sultanate of Oman. GCET Cyber is a team of academics at GCET aspiring to work for Cybersecurity. The group is actively engaged in various areas related to Cybersecurity, Cyber Physical Systems, Data Science and Cybersecurity, Wire/Wireless Security, Mobile and Embedded Devices, HighPerformance Computers security, Cloud and Grid Computing Security and Digital Forensics. GCET Cyber is active in teaching, research, industrial engagement, and outreach. Key members of the group are involved in the delivery of BSc (Hons) Computer Security and Forensics which is a unique programme in the Sultanate of Oman. Recently, the group has broadened its landscape and started research on the challenges in the Cybersecurity education in the MENA region with a deeper focus on offering Cyber education using blended/distance learning.

The Computer Science Research Group at GCET is committed to driving innovation and technological progress in alignment with Oman Vision 2040. Our research themes are to support the nation’s goals of digital transformation, and knowledge-based development.
The group aims to address critical challenges, such as enhancing digital infrastructure, securing cyberspace, and fostering smart city initiatives. Our interdisciplinary research integrates insights from fields like engineering, and mathematics, ensuring comprehensive solutions.
The group’s initiatives align with the pillars of Oman Vision 2040, empowering youth with skills in emerging technologies. Our research not only pushes the boundaries of computer science but also ensures practical applications that drive the nation toward a technologically advanced future.
Renewable Energy
Renewable Energy is both a global trend and a national target. GCET aims to have a key role in the renewable energy research, education and implementation of the same towards achieving Oman Vision 2040.
GCET Renewable Energy team is a multidisciplinary team. The team brings together the expertise and skills of different professionals to assess, plan and manage innovations and research related to Green Energy Sources and System. They are working towards promoting and disseminating the related knowledge and technologies. They collaborate to present the important results to the international community in research, development, application, planning or design for demand and supply of the fields of renewable/green/clean energy.
Public Health & Environmental Management
The Public Health & Environmental Management Research Group focuses on the complex relationship between environmental management and public health, with the goal of creating healthier communities through improved environmental quality and public behaviour. The group takes an interdisciplinary approach to develop innovative strategies for reducing environmental risks, promoting sustainable practices, and protecting public health. Through collaboration with environmental scientists, professionals, policymakers, and community stakeholders, the group aim at addressing environmental challenges such as the impacts of climate change, environmental degradation, air quality, soil droughts, and public exposure to environmental pollution.
Urban and Regional Planning
Research in the field of Urban Planning brings together a diverse range of professionals and researchers specializing in Urban and Regional Planning, Architecture, Environmental Management and Practices, Green Energy and Information Technology, Sociology, Economics, and Politics. The research conducted under the Urban Planning theme aims to address various urban social challenges, urban economic challenges, urban consumption and lifestyle, smart cities, resilient cities, active transportation, transit-oriented development, waste management, lean management, sustainable production and circular economy, healthy sustainable communities, sustainable urban planning, planning for people, placemaking, urban qualities and social justice, housing and real estate development, community development, urban regeneration, urban infrastructure and sustainability, and transportation and technology.
